What applies specifically to Google Search
Google explicitly states that a supporting link in AI Overviews or AI Mode has no additional technical requirements beyond search. Accessibility, text content, ordinary internal links and consistent structured data are useful. Meeting the requirements still does not guarantee appearance.
Connecting Search Console therefore also makes sense in a GEO plan: it provides information about the search foundation, rather than replacing observation of an AI answer. Do not mark the entire Google channel complete simply because domain ownership is verified. Verification opens owner tools but is not a search result.
Where Google-Extended matters
In Google’s current list, Google-Extended is described as a separate control token for using content to train future Gemini models and for grounding in Gemini Apps and the corresponding Vertex AI scenario. It does not govern inclusion in Google Search and is not a Search ranking signal.
The practical rule is to first name the surface for which you are changing the policy. A decision to “retain regular search but restrict other use” needs to be evaluated against the documentation for that specific product. Do not extend “does not affect Search” to every answer in the Gemini application.
How to check your scenario
For Google Search, check the public page, snippet restrictions and URL status. For Gemini, save a separate real answer: the question, language, date, available mode, sources and session conditions. If search was not used, state that separately.
For example, the same guide may appear in regular search results but not among the sources for a particular Gemini answer. This is not a contradiction resolved by verifying the website again. Investigate the question, the content’s relevance and the actual signals available.
The roles of AURA and the owner
In AURA GEO, the agent can prepare the Google connection, check installed information and read the available search status. The owner signs in and consents to access. An external agent obtains the AI answer through authorized access, while the platform saves the observation.
Auri helps gather the country, language and goal. A paid model API is not required to read your own documentation or check a website; however, free interface availability and its limits remain conditions for the actual measurement.
Conditions and limitations
- Search Console data is not separate reporting on all Gemini answers.
- Indexing does not guarantee a supporting link.
