Why a public page still has noindex

Look for noindex both in the HTML and in the server response’s X-Robots-Tag. An accidental block often remains after a test deployment. Remove it only for content that should actually appear in search.

One URL, several configuration locations

The rule may come from a CMS template, server, CDN or an individual file. Fixing the meta tag therefore does not necessarily change the HTTP header. Retrieve the real public page without signing in and check both places. A 200 status does not override noindex.

Google describes noindex as a way to exclude content from results after the signal has been read. Adding this restriction to robots.txt is not a supported substitute. When crawling is blocked, the crawler may not see the change. Check these mechanisms together rather than treating them as interchangeable.

First decide whether the content should be public

A homepage, service description and useful article are often intended for search. A workspace, drafts, approval pages and internal reports are a different case. Removing noindex from the entire website without an inventory risks privacy and creates unnecessary routes in results.

For illustration, after a landing page is moved from a test host, all pages inherit the X-Robots-Tag: noindex header. Fix the rule specifically for public production routes rather than disabling authentication restrictions. Sensitive documents need real access protection, not just a meta tag.

Check the result after publication

Save the address, initial response and purpose of the page. After the edit, retrieve it again through an external request and check the HTML, headers and final route. Clear a supported CDN cache if necessary. Then use inspection in the connected search engine: its information may update later than the website.

Do not substitute a search for your own name in an AI interface for this process. If noindex is gone, the technical task is complete, but inclusion and the selected snippet may still be unknown. Repeat submissions do not speed up the resolution of another cause of rejection.

AURA GEO keeps two different checks

The audit records the restriction it detects, while URL status stores available search engine information. The agent can prepare a change and check the live response after deployment. The report should state exactly what is confirmed: “restriction removed” or “indexing confirmation received.”

Neither the agent nor a workspace status should turn the removal of one restriction into a promise of citation.

Conditions and limitations
  • The absence of noindex does not guarantee indexing.
  • Privacy requires access controls.
