What Bing Webmaster helps you answer
The owner tool helps investigate discovery, crawling and technical errors. Microsoft describes it as a way to manage search visibility and notes Bing’s role in a range of AI scenarios. That is a reason to check the search foundation, not to treat one index as a universal registry of all assistants.
Start with the correct domain and authority. You cannot claim someone else’s website property merely because you know its address. Choose a verification method that matches the access available: files, metadata or another supported setting. Enter secrets and keys in their designated forms rather than inserting them into a public article.
Check the page, not just a green connection status
Choose the homepage and one important article. For each, compare the current retrieval with Bing’s saved information. URL Inspection shows available search status data and issues. The last retrieval time matters: an old record may describe a version that has already been fixed.
If you see a rejection, record the exact reason and time. Then fix the page or infrastructure, check the live response and send the appropriate notification. Reconnecting the entire account because of one incorrect canonical is usually unnecessary. First determine at which stage the problem occurred.
Why this is not yet a Copilot or ChatGPT recommendation
An indexed page becomes more accessible to the relevant search scenarios, but sources are selected for a specific question. Claiming a citation requires a saved AI answer containing a link. A recommendation also requires suitable wording that suggests choosing the brand.
For example, a report might say: “Bing reports that the URL is indexed; one checked AI answer does not contain a link yet.” This does not diminish the work completed: it separates the confirmed technical outcome from the next measurable goal.
